AI: FRIEND, FOE, OR MIRROR? – AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP PUT TO THE TEST

Date of event: October 13, 2026

We live in a time when open information makes it harder, not easier, to tell fact from fiction. Where do we find clarity, trust, and reliable ground to lead from? The institutions that once held authority over knowledge, governments, universities, scientific bodies, no longer command the trust they once did. Anyone with a smartphone can gather, mobilise, and lead followers today. Society no longer agrees on basic facts, let alone on who qualifies as a credible expert. Deepfakes make even what we see and hear unreliable. What does "true" knowledge mean when validity itself has become so fluid?Does AI challenge our authority as leaders? Do the ways we used to decide who to trust, and what to believe, still hold up? How do we handle the sheer volume of information AI puts in front of our teams? And how do we handle the loss of judgement that can come from relying on it without experience?Imagine this: at a party, AI turns out to be the more engaging conversation partner than the people around you. Where is the human still in it, when influence itself is shifting? We may need new boundaries to find our balance again. Perhaps authenticity in leadership is best defined by how we use AI: as a servant, not a master; an aide, not a threat. What has your own experience been? Where has AI supported your leadership, and where has it tested it?
